During change, people need a sense of structure, order, and control, but more importantly they need a sense of purpose and direction.
Often when times get chaotic, we tend to revert to focusing on management (more tactical and tangible for us). Without a leadership focus, we can feel like we are a gerbil on that proverbial wheel!
Spend some time thinking about, or better yet, discuss with a trusted colleague:
- Who in your organization do you feel balances both sides well (management and leadership) – why? What do they do/say?
- How does having a balance impact the business?
- Where do you spend your time – where might you need to shift?
